How to Prepare for a National Emergency

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We hear about National Emergencies all the time. A National Emergency can mean many things, including terrorist attacks, financial institution failures, major floods, repeated hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, and severe wildfires. It’s important to know what it means if any of these events happen in our area and how to prepare. Some of these emergencies are climate-related and seem to be happening more often. No matter what the cause or situation that follows, emergency preparedness is critical for family safety. I’m updating this post from January 2021. It’s appropriate to repost NOW.

What is a National Emergency?

When we hear “national emergency,” many panic and think an official government organization needs to step in and take charge of the situation. Some think that martial law is imminent or should take effect. A national emergency seldom means martial law will be implemented, but whether it does or not, we all need emergency supplies.

The president declares a national emergency, which gives the government, specifically the president, powers to take action that it usually isn’t permitted to.

It’s declared during a national crisis or when situations threaten a significant area of the country, industry, or population base that calls for an immediate response.

How to Prepare for a National Emergency

What Powers Does It Give the President?

Emergency declarations could give the president over 136 statutory powers, including those related to the military, land, public health, and agriculture.

For example, the president could shut down local radio stations or suspend a law that prohibits the testing of chemical and biological weapons on human subjects.

There are many powers. Most of the powers used have been to impose sanctions, deploy the military, and send money as needed to rectify a situation.

What Constitutes a National Emergency?

This is a tricky question! What constitutes an emergency is up for debate. The president must use the existing laws to justify a declaration. There are national emergencies that are still in effect today! National emergencies are reviewed and renewed annually.

Here are a few of the national emergencies that we have currently in place that were issued by the last four presidents: Stats (I’ve listed a few)

  • Clinton-Blocking Iranian Property (sanctions)
  • Clinton-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (arms)
  • Bush-Terrorist Attacks (military)
  • Bush– Protecting development fund for Iraq (legal)
  • Obama-Blocking property of persons threatening the peace of Yemen (sanctions)
  • Obama– Blocking property of persons contributing to situations in Ukraine (sanctions)
  • Trump-Southern Border of the United States (military)
  • Trump– Novel Coronavirus Disease (public health)
  • Biden-Extended 9/11 state of emergency by a year (now 23 years)

You can find the National Emergencies Act of 1976 here

Put it All Together

A declaration of national emergency is a tough one to put all together because it is so broad. But, let me try to explain it where it makes a little more sense:

  1. The president can declare a national emergency if any situation threatens our country.
  2. Most powers over situations are voted upon in the House and Senate and then signed by the president.
  3. In a state of emergency, the presidentt wait for Congress to agree before acting.
  4. The state of emergency grants the president powers over that situation, not powers over everything.
  5. Congress can prevent the president from gaining these powers if both the House and Senate vote in a supermajority. Basically, everyone has to agree.
  6. The Supreme Court can stop the president from getting the powers if the declaration is unconstitutional.
  7. The president still has checks and balances.

How to Prepare for a National Emergency

As you can see above, the president can declare a national emergency for almost anything. Additionally, it grants him certain powers over the situation that he would not usually have.

A president could potentially abuse those powers, and it could take time for Congress and the Supreme Court to stop him. Because of this potential, it is always important to prepare.

As you can tell, we still have multiple states of emergencies ongoing—31, to be exact! Martial law was not issued for most of those, and we haven’t been directly affected by them. However, luck favors the prepared.

Here are a few ways you can prepare when you hear there could be a national emergency:

#1 Figure Out Communication

As stated above, the president could shut down radio stations, which means he could shut down forms of communication, such as cell towers. Make sure you have a plan with your family to communicate. If communication is shut down, this could be a meeting place or a walkie-talkie for more local communication. Other forms of communication should be considered based on your location and financial situation since they may mean purchasing some equipment.

Consider getting a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) capable radio so you can stay informed about what’s going on around you and elsewhere. If battery-powered, be sure to have extra batteries. I have a hand crank radio that I know will work whether I have house power or batteries.

#2 Have Enough Food and Water

A state of emergency has to be reevaluated every six months. This means that if things get really bad, you’ll want to make sure you can survive for six months. During a state of emergency, curfews could be enforced, or stores could be shut down, preventing you from getting the essential basic items you need.

Could you feed your family three meals a day for six months without going to the store? Do you have at least four gallons of water per person per day in your household for six months? If not, you must consider how to move in this direction and start stocking up one item at a time.

The American Red Cross suggests one gallon of water per person per day. I’ve always told my readers that four gallons per person per day is much more realistic since you need to provide for hydration, cooking, personal sanitation, and limited laundry chores.

You need to seriously consider how to collect and store non-perishable food. My website was initially established to help people do just that. These foodstuffs aren’t items you just throw in freezers or refrigerators. You need to develop a location in your house where significant inventories can be safely stored. It should be dark, cool, and as dry as possible. Check out my archive of posts to gain insight about getting started and how to maintain that inventory.

#3 Medications for National Emergencies

Some people are on medications that keep them alive, such as insulin. It may be difficult to stock up on prescription medications because they are only filled once a month or once every 90 days. If you want to be prepared, you can discuss this with your doctor and determine how to increase your inventory and how to store it properly.

Depending on the doctor you have, your doctor may be willing to send in prescriptions for more than what you need in the short term so you have some to store away. All you can do is ask.

#4 OTC Medications

We tend to get things like Tylenol and cough medicine only when needed. But you’ll want to ensure you have various OTC medications that can handle indigestion, the flu, sunburn, other burns, cuts, scrapes, etc.

#5 Hygiene Products

Shampoo, conditioner, soap, pads, and deodorant are things we use almost daily. You will want to ensure you have enough stored up in case you can’t make it to a store to get more for several weeks or months. Again, try buying a few at a time. Also, plan where you can adequately store the new items.

Think of the needs of each family member. The little ones will need diapers and age-appropriate formula or baby food. Women will need to have backup plans for that “time of the month” that comes around no matter what is happening.

Have some moist towelettes, hand sanitizer, masks, and other items in your disaster supplies kit so you can stay as clean and germ-free as possible.

#6 First Aid Kits

I don’t know about you, but I sure wouldn’t want to be trying to go to the doctor or hospital if we have the military patrolling the streets. Ensure you have a first aid kit and know how to handle a non-life-threatening situation. I recommend always having superglue!

Along with a kit, you need to learn some first aid skills like CPR, cleaning and dressing wounds, using a sling and splints, and how to treat shock. Knowing how to take advantage of all the resources at your disposal is critical.

#7 Have Evacuation Plans in Place

Based on my age and medical circumstances, I plan to shelter-in-place if at all possible. If we’re directed to evacuate, we all need to have plans that include options for places to go and the appropriate evacuation routes to take. We need to discuss these plans with family members and have various scenarios based on the time of day as our families are scattered from home, friends, the gym, and school and work.

You need to have a folder or binder with important documents. You can get my suggested binder documents from my archive so you for sure don’t forget anything.

How to Prepare for a National Emergency

Final Word

A national emergency doesn’t necessarily mean we are in a panic situation where we live. However, by being prepared for other scenarios like natural disasters, job loss, or even a pandemic, we will have what we need to survive if a national emergency affects where we live and work. Remember, luck favors the prepared, and a plan is even better. May God Bless this world, Linda

  1. Good list:
Stay focused on the task at hand which should only be related to taking care of you and yours.
Don’t get caught up and think your going to fix whatever at the National level by a singular action.
We are all emotional about politics and current events but don’t lose sight of what’s important and that’s those around you.
    Be smart, stay safe

    1. Hi Matt, thank you!! I’m staying home and contacting friends to be smart, stay healthy, stock up, and turn off the TV intermittently. I’m asking them to pray to their God for our police officers, first responders, military men, and women. Linda

  2. HI Linda! Great post today. Especially during this time of unrest over the election and all the other stuff going on. Thank you so much for all you do to help us prepare.

    1. Hi Deborah, I have to stay off Facebook because it’s so negative (some of it). I have the Food Storage Moms group so I check that a few times a day. Thank you for your kind words, we must be able to help each other right now. It can be a kind word like you left today! Hugs, Linda

      1. I’m not on Facebook and haven’t been in a long while now. As in years. It was too negative for me, and would make my blood pressure rise at some of the posts. I finally just got off for good. I do miss keeping up with some of my school friends and some family members, but not the negative stuff.

        1. Hi Deborah, I hear you on FaceBook. Crazy times. My question is this, how does the President of the United States have ALL of his social media platforms shut down. Never in my life would I have ever believed that would happen. I didn’t follow him, but really? I thought we lived in the USA! I just shake my head. What happened to Freedom of Speech?? God help us, that’s all that’s left. Linda

          1. I guess it depends on who you are and what you say. I feel we as a country are going to hell in a hand basket! We the people, need to take charge, I just don’t know how to do it without a war. Or violence. I feel like the government has too much authority, and we have none. Just my opinion. I don’t want to take over the government. It’s scary what some of our politicians are doing.

          2. Hi Deborah, I totally agree with you. I’m seeing things I never in my lifetime could even dream up these things! I would love to see some of the state/national government leaders go without a paycheck for weeks or months. I do not think our country will ever recover. I used to be optimistic but let’s be real, who is going to pay all this debt back. There are no words for how I feel right now. Linda

          3. I hesitate to go down this road, but thought I had to speak up.

Freedom of Speech is part of the First Amendment and it says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Since Facebook, Twitter, etc. aren’t government entities they aren’t required to follow the first amendment. While they are plenty of laws they do have to follow, they are allowed to kick anyone they want off their service(s).

This isn’t to say I agree with the actions taken, but from a constitutional point of view they are completely within their rights to do this.

          4. Hi DmWalsh, thank you for sharing this. My husband and I were just talking about it. You are so right, Facebook, Twitter, or whatever has every right to take them down because they are NOT a government entity. They have their own Terms of Service and those who use those platforms must abide by their rules. I’m so glad you shared this. I’ve been so “bugged” that someone could take down the President’s FaceBook and Twitter and whatever else. I had to step back and think it through. You spelled it out perfectly. Thank you, my friend, Linda

    1. Janet, I agree with staying home as much as possible. But I have to do the errands in our household. Hubby can’t ride even the 5 miles to town without paying the price for 2 days after.

I always wear my mask, and use my hand sanitizer with germ fighting essential oils in it.

  3. Anyone who doesn’t believe we are in the most frightening of times is crazy! I stay as prepared as I can for all sorts of issues and will remain that way.

Don’t forget to have cash on hand – It is entirely possible that the president could shut down banks. I pray that is not something that will happen but… We have to be prepared to be independent of banks as well as grocery stores, the fuel pump, etc. Think – what if scenarios: what if I cannot get to the bank (it is closed or I am out of fuel or I am ill to the point of not being able to leave my home); what if I cannot…name the issue. I know that we have all had issues in 2020 that prevented us from going where we wanted to when we wanted to so that has given most of us at least a taste of what could happen in the future.

I am with Janet – I limit how much time I spend listening to the news! My newest friend is YouTube!! so much on there that interests me – no movies so much as documentaries.

    1. Hi Leanne, oh I watch all the Netflix documentaries, now I need to see them on YouTube!! Thanks for the tip! Cash is critical, most of know that but newbies would not. I will try to remember and add it to the post. Thanks for the reminder! Linda

    2. My husband and I are lucky enough to have cash on hand but it’s in hundred dollar bills. That’s not going help unless what we get is over $100. We’ve had quite a bit of counterfeiting here in our area and already no Bills are being taken. I go along with Linda-make sure you have small denominations.

I don’t “do” social media ever, so I’m at a loss to what alot of people are talking about. I hear mostly negative things about it, hurtful, snarky comments, etc. so I’m glad I never got on it. This site is as much as I ever do online and I’m sooo grateful for it! It keeps me sane. I also have stopped watching/reading the news. I’m sure if something catastrophic happened or something I needed to know right away, my kids would tell me or someone would!

Everyone out there stay safe! I did hear from some friends that 20 out of 27 senior missionary couples in Nauvoo have Covid-19 and they’re all in lockdown. This thing isn’t going away anytime soon so we don’t need to drop our guards…stay vigilent!

      1. Hi Robbie, as far as cash, I’m not sure anymore what will be good or bad. Small bills, large bills, or no bills at all. Crazy times, we do indeed need to be diligent. Please stay home if at all possible. Linda

  4. Good list but I might add toothpaste, several toothbrushes and Fixodent for those that have dentures. If you cannot keep your teeth and mouth clean your teeth will rot and it could kill you. Why not add some deodorant sticks as well. It would make it nicer for your people to be around you.❣

    1. I agree, Diane! I cannot tolerate my mouth being dirty!! I always save the toothbrushes and little tubes of toothpaste as well as floss that the dentist gives out when I go for a cleaning. I probably have 15 + toothbrushes and paste in my preps over and above what I use on a daily basis.

      1. I make my own deodorant and have made my own toothpaste. I have at least 4 extra tooth brushes. I do keep one in my purse. I know, it just me. We do have extra toothpaste as well. And shampoo. We need to stock our hygiene supplies along with our food stuff and cleaning supplies. They are all necessary. Again just my opinion.

  5. Hi all, One of the things DH and I have done when traveling (family ALL over the States) is the take the soap and stuff home with us that the hotels provide their guests. They just toss that stuff if you don’t use it due to Health and Safety laws. As we bring our own soap, shampoo with us due to allergies, I’d collect them in a small tote and then we’d donate them to the homeless shelters , women shelters but the last few years, the places have been getting the donations directly from the areas hotels now. A friend runs one of the shelters here and let me know that they get the things now so I now donate other things they need IE: socks, combs, etc. So I have a small tote that I keep in the storage that has the bars of soap, shampoo, etc as back ups for the bath stuff I already have. You’d be surprised how that stuff adds up. And as an FYI check with your military family members that maybe deployed to “hot” spots. They may appreciate getting those things too. Had a friend , who’s wife was deployed, retired now, sent her a CARE package with those things in it along with the little sewing kits, shower caps etc. some of the hotels would put in the bathrooms. I also added a few things to it like hard candy, travel size deodorants and toothpaste. It was much appreciated.

    1. Hi Kathy, what a great reminder to save those hotel/motel soaps, lotions, and shampoos. I love it! My husband and I with the local civic club get supplies from hotels to fill bags for the homeless. We need more CARE packages for sure. Linda

      1. You’re welcome. We had a guest a year or so (before Covid) come to stay with us. He packed everything but his deodorant. Had some of those travel sizes in the bathroom drawer so he didn’t have to run out and buy some. And invariably one of Son1’s 2 older kids will forget something, (they pack their own bags) so it helps to have a “stash ” of those little soaps, shampoo for them, they ARE getting better but this last time GRD1 forgot her baby toothbrush (needs a REALLY soft brush) for her braces, luckily I had some in the bin she could use. The one thing the women’s shelters here request most often are period supplies and diapers. I get some strange looks in the store when I have both period supplies, diapers and tinkle pads in my cart, LOL. Had an older lady tell me what a sweet thing I was getting moms supplies, by the way I don’t look my age. Told her the tinkle pads were mine and the others were for the womens shelter.

        1. Hi Kathy, this is the best comment ever! I remember being in high school and putting period supplies in the grocery cart and prayed no one would see them. Now when I buy them for my storage I throw those suckers in and don’t think one think about it! I have grown up a lot!! LOL! Life is good! Linda

  6. Linda, I totally understand how you’re feeling. I think a lot of us are feeling it. I’ll be going to the bank tomorrow. We have some rolls of quarters we can use if need be. Plus other rolls. Our oldest granddaughter is coming to see us tomorrow with her son. She’s almost 30, and he’s almost 5 she’ll be shopping in our pantry some. She’s a single mom. She does have a photography business and she is getting child support. At least there’s that. I’m more scared for the younger generations that don’t know how to do what we older generations have lived with. Scratch cooking and stocking up.

    1. Hi Deborah, I get emails every few months asking if I can come and teach different church groups how to cook from scratch. I always decline because, #1 you can’t teach people to cook from scratch in a one-hour class, #2 I feel strongly they need to teach their congregation weekly if need be. I love seeing our grandkids, you will have so much fun with them tomorrow! Life is so good! Linda

  7. This is great information, you just never know what will happen in the great old USA. Best to be as prepared as possible.

  8. Perhaps the most important item a family can have, regarding sanitation, is “camp” toilet because if things get really bad water may not flow from your tap.

Having a HAM license and radio could keep you in contact with distant loved ones provided repeater stations aren’t shut down.

    1. Hi Ray, I wondered whether the repeater stations could be should down. I realize if the cell phone provider’s towers are compromised obviously our cell phones will not work. I have two “camp” toilets. Great reminders, thank you, Linda

      1. Unless the repeater stations are prepared for off-grid operations, then chances are once the electrical grid goes down so will the repeaters. But if the grid stays up any orders to shutdown the telephone or cellular networks wouldn’t impact the independent repeaters (which are usually run by small ham groups.)
All that said, I still don’t have any HAM gear or a license yet…one of those to-do items that keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list, below food, medicine, etc…. I’ve been more focused on preparing to be as self-reliant as possible and wish-list items are getting short shrift. Sure it’d be great to be able to talk to my dad in an emergency, but if things are really bad it would take me over a week to walk to his home to give him any help. Not ideal, but we do what we can.

        1. Hi DmWalsh, I think I bought the Ham Radio book about 10 years ago. I wanted to study the book and take the test. I’ve been more focused on everything else as well. I feel like with everything going on right now, it’s at the bottom of my to-do list. It is what it is. Great comment, Linda

      2. I would guess, but do not know for sure, that the FCC has the power to shut down repeater stations. Whether or not they actually did so would depend on how authoritarian the government becomes and how badly they want to restrict free speech. Of course if we got hit with a big enough EMP or Carrington Event that could also shut them down. We keep a spare pair of two-way radios in a faraday cage, and when I get another hand-held HAM radio I’ll put it in there as well.

  9. Well I see things haven’t improved since this original post lol. I figure we will have at least 2 between now and J6

    1. Matt,
I think you are being optimistic at ywo. I just hope and pray that one of them is not seeing mushroom clouds.

  10. Hello dear friends: Yes, I do consider you all friends anymore with how kindly and freely you share your knowledge of preparedness and life… I just want to add a little of what I have been taught by financial counselors and listened to from experts. Cash will work for a short time, but it would be WAAAAAY worth it to invest in silver coins (especially if you don’t have sufficient time to afford the cost of gold coins), at least that’s what THEY teach. Many people say to buy 1 oz. 99% pure silver eagle coins. Right now, they are only worth about $28-$38 each from most sellers/maybe could find a few selling for less. HOWEVER, if the price of silver rises in a crisis, as predicted to go as high as $600 per 1 oz., you will not want to have to pay with the 1 oz. coins and only get part of the value of the coin back as “change” or receive CBDCs for the remainder (if you wish to remain off of the government’s radar.) What’s the fix? I had a professional counselor tell me and also heard a 2nd professional financial counselor advise to buy the 90% silver coins in 1/2 dollar and quarter denominations for buying things (like bottled water or groceries in a crisis), IF there is anything to buy still left in the stores!!
I have several units/packets of smaller denominations, like Ben Franklin and JFK silver half dollar coins in my “collection”, just MAKE SURE the date on coins you buy is 1964 for silver. After that there’s mostly junk metals in them.
I spoke on the phone with a professional counselor from a famous Precious Metals company 10 days ago, and he told me he has an entire safe of the older 90% silver Washington quarters in his house!! Before then, I had only gone down in denomination to the 90% Bennie Franklin and JFK half dollars of 1964 and older. He said that the coins I had purchased on eBay were fine, but that I was probably paying too much for them. To his surprise, I had made 2 recent purchases from ACTUAL coin and bullion dealers on eBay and paid exactly the same price as his company was charging!! I mostly only buy from verifiable coin dealers on eBay. BUT, on eBay, you don’t have to start out with an outlay of a minimum purchase of $2,500 to get started purchasing. Also, I have been told that the gold coins are nice, but they are for long-term savings, unless you’re buying something really large, like a car or just saving to pass down to children eventually. What surprised and comforted me recently was to hear another famous finance specialist say he sold off his gold coins to buy silver coins because they will rise in price better than gold and are more transactable. And I guarantee you he had LOTS of gold coins!! Just some hints from those of you who are considering how to make purchases once the dollar tanks.

ALSO: LAST but NOT least, remember that you cannot eat nor drink metal coins, so make sure you have the kinds of things that Linda recommends before you buy too many coins!! LINDA, OH MY GOSH!!! How the heck could we ever store 6 months of water and WHERE?? BY your calculations, which I am positive are CORRECT, we would need to store at least 720 gallons for the 3 of us, and that would be totally impossible for us!! Thank God, we have a laundryroom toilet downstairs that is the one closest to the septic tank, and a large “pond/marsh” from which to draw buckets of swamp water to pour down the toilet to flush it!!! (And yes, we have a toilet seat for emergencies that will fit over a 5-gallon bucket, along with a lot of other such gear that my husband calls junk that is just taking up space!! He also have NEVER invested in one single silver coin nor Crypto, either!! He has the money to do so, but just doesn’t believe that there will be a need, not even when the Military Generals are saying so!
Well, as long as we have propane, I guess we could try distilling pesticide-riden swamp water and then putting it through our Berkey filter if it still isn’t to our liking…?

O.K. Too long. I hope this infor helps someone.

    Best,

JESS from Central NY, the fruit basket of the Northeastern US.
evidenced by the loads of peaches, plums, apples and also veggies I am struggling to get “put up” right now!!

    1. Hi Jess, great advice for those who want to invest in silver. I don’t have gold or silver but that was my choice. My mouth is watering over the fruits and veggies you struggling to “put up”! I love it! We are blessed to have this group, I totally agree. Linda

    2. You and my husband are like minded, as is our son. They use to get $500 boxes of rolled half dollars from the bank, go thru them and remove any 1964 and replace them with newer. Same for dimes and quarters. What I call scrap silver coins would be useful for emergencies. He has a collection of Military and Law Enforcement challenge coins, but I am not sure they have any value. Likewise, his proof sets. Of course, getting to the safely deposit box is another story

      1. Hi Chris, that was a smart idea to do with the half dollars! I worked at a bank and never thought about that! I love it! Yeah, with a power grid outage no one will have access to their safety deposit boxes. Good point, Linda

      2. Chris: I am sorry that I never made that part clear in my earlier lengthy post. We do not need to get to any safety deposit box when the banks close. We have 2 safes in our home, so we keep our coins there without issue.

        Thanks,

        JESS

        1. Your idea is a good one. I have a book in my safety deposit box that tells my guardian/health care surrogate/Executor what to do. I took everything but papers out.
Reason: Some time ago a 3 letter agency had a search warrant for certain contents of a certain safety deposit box that was in a company’s vault that has that business. Same rules as for a bank. Well, they ended up going through every single box and confiscated anything they pretty much felt like taking. People who had more than $10,000 in cash, legally obtained, had their money confiscated and had to prove its origin. It was awful.
Constitutional? No. But, the people still had to fight the battle to get their stuff back.
Better than a safe, though not fire proof, is a false wall with a hidey hole behind it. Our last house had one in a closet built by my husband. There are risks in any effort to secure things, but this one was the best I’ve seen.
In martial law, a safe is not “safe.” Caveat: we have one. We all just have to do our best. There are fire proof boxes that can be inserted in the hidey hole. My husband was a fire fighter. Given enough heat, everything melts. Again, you can go nuts if you worry to the extreme.
Just do the best you can.

  11. By the way, I follow pretty closely Pastor Dave Scarlett and Prophet Julie Green’s Wednesday broadcasts on HisGlory.me program entitled “Take Five”. Pr. Dave talks about what the US and Israeli Generals are saying about the US and Israeli state of affairs/potential EMPs, attacks, etc; and Julie tells what God is speaking to her about such things. It is extremely informative and encouraging to hear them present their knowledge and expertise together!! WHAT A FANTASTIC WAY TO KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!!! I also love Pr. Dave’s other short daily program “The War Report”, also on HisGlory.me.

They are saying that the Deep State is coming down, but that there WILL be a pause in electricity and internet/cellular services for a “short” time. Who knows what “a short time” means…a month? Several months? Pr. Dave calls it a “Lock in”, not a “Lock Down”…i.e. Lock-in to protect Americans, actually. Predicted to take place within a few weeks at best, not in months or years. Some are saying between Sept. 23 and October 24, but I wouldn’t know about the accuracy of that! Just sharing what they say.

Again, NO FEAR is necessary!!! GOD HAS GOT THIS! Just start praying and trusting Him, so you know how to proceed. All those people in the know say: Pray over your family, your home, your property, your vehicles, and especially for President Trump, his family the Vance Family, RFK and family, etc., too, for PROTECTION, and also for those who work to protect them!!

    Best,

    JESS

    1. I had a message once a long time ago that “everything will be ok.” It was unrelated to what we are talking about. What I failed to remember was that there is “God’s time” and “our” time! It took many years, but sure enough….”everything is ok.”

I know prayers works. In the meantime, we are no good to ourselves or others if we don’t prepare.
Worry doesn’t accomplish anything. I have had a few messages to remind me. Two different nights during a late night dog walk, it was so quiet where I live. I was fretting about the state of the world. I cannot explain how it came to me the first night, but it was “Leg go. Let God.” The next message a few nights later was “Thy will be done.” Ok, I get it! Surely took the weight off my shoulders.

As an aside, when you hear the siren of a police or fire vehicle, would you say a little prayer for the personnel in those vehicles? They need all the help they can get…and if they don’t arrive, they can’t save or serve others. I might have had 27 years of that sort of driving. These young people have it a lot harder than we did.

  12. IF a truly serious National Emergency goes on long enough, getting meds refilled will be all but impossible. Those of us with diabetes will be among the first to go.

    1. Hi Ray, I totally agree with you. We have a lot of friends that use Diabetic medication, that’s the one drug I worry about as well. Now that I am on oxygen 24/7 I worry about a power grid outage. I do have a solar system, and my concentrator is pretty low wattage. Medications will be very hard to get indeed. Linda

    2. The book One Second After really covered that.
I recommend my friends who are on Insulin get a small cooler that runs on propane, 12v, 110. Forget food in it…insulin. I don’t know how long insulin lasts if properly stored, but my neighbor said it’s quite a while. She has one now. We are in hurricane alley.

For the rest, Jase medical and TWC both have great kits. I think it is TWC that can provide emergency Rx medications for stock piling. It’s not cheap, but if you need it and don’t have it, what would you pay then?
Also, there are some meds that can be ordered via the FLCCC Alliance’s providers list. I’ve used all 3 sources.

Another source of communication is a VHF radio. Most every boat has one. Many boaters also have hand held VHF radios. They are line of sight transmission devices. Besides having all the weather radio channels, they also function as communication with the Coast Guard or as point to point like walkie talkies. They are 12v. Easy to charge.

      1. I’ve read One Second After (excellent book–except for that “no fishing in the reservoir” when people are starving story line). That bit about Jase medical and TWC is good info, and so is the propane fueled cooler, but I think in a true TSHTF situation we wouldn’t be able to get meds delivered OR go someplace to pick them up.

  13. I am NOT going to be afraid of what might be coming down the pike.

The largest thing I have issues with is storing enough water! Just don’t have enough space for the amount to last for 6+ months. There are no water sources near where I live so I am going to have to wing it for as long as I can.

I believe I am in good condition for almost everything else. However, if the normal communications are shut down, I won’t have any way to contact my daughter. Praying that when that time comes, that I will be able to get to the farm with most of my preps and hunker down in the country!!

If things are sprung on us overnight, that will be the biggest issue I have. So, while I hate watching the biased news media, I will keep my eyes open and my ears to the ground.

    1. Hi Leanne, I’m so glad you mentioned you are NOT going to be afraid. We are as prepared as we can be right now. I feel strongly that you will be able to make it to your daughters. You have water and you will make it work. We will all have to do that. Every can in our storage that has liquid in it we can use. I never worry about me, I worry about others who are not prepared at all. We all have choices. You and I know what to do. Stay healthy and safe, Linda

  14. I keep doing everything I can. I prepare as best I can, and I pray. I have come to realize all I can do is all I can do. I have to keep my blood pressure under control. I am grateful for everything everyone here has taught me
    Please stay safe and healthy

    1. Hi Chris, great comment as always. We can’t worry about what we cannot control. Yes, that sounds easy but it’s not. Keep your blood pressure down my sweet friend. Hugs, Linda

  15. I would like to REPEAT here that Oscillococcinum is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST homeopathic medicines ever made for combatting flu viruses! You can buy it everywhere, but it will be pricey. I prefer to order it in 2 box packages from Amazon, and the price per tube of the tiny “pillages” is so much cheaper that way!

IF you are at all worried, you can also acquire Quercetin with Zinc (and elderberry, if you can get that). The Quercetin with Zinc is a close approximation to having a similar effectiveness to Ivermectin, but much easier to acquire inside the USA. I know how to get Iver. from overseas, but it is not always available, where as Quercetin usually is. The trick is you MUST take the zinc with it, as it’s the zinc that actually stops the virus from replicating…the Quercetin or Ivermectin is what carries the zinc inside the cells, where the virus is replicating and making you more and more ill. If you don’t take the zinc with it, the efficacy is very low, cause zinc rolling around OUTSIDE the cell does not generally do you a lot of good to combat virulent viruses.

As I have also mentioned repeatedly: Young Living’s R.C. Oil is a life-saver. I would not EVER be without those two natural medicines, with what the Deep State if planning on doing to US Citizens! There are lots more, as I also mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Melrose is FABULOUS for wounds/cuts!
So many more ideas!! Don’t forget that a quality collagen product is also great for healing wounds that are deep, as is Comfrey Leaf…When I say a QUALITY collagen product, I am NOT kidding! My husband told me this morning that he read an article that the cheaper versions of collagen are known for taking the collagen from ALREADY TANNED hides, and you def. do NOT want that! We use Dr. Chad Walding’s collagen peptides called “Native Path”, which is just wonderful! You will also see a difference in your skin and joints by taking that product!

O.K. There’s tons more to share, but I will not continue to overwhelm people right now!

    Blessings upon you all,

JESS, Certified Natural Health Professional since 2006

  16. Forgot to mention that Berberine capsules can often replace diabetic meds., just so you know. I prefer the professional, clinically tested grade by Dr. Whitaker’s company. Very good and has many other great medicinal properties. Can be acquired on Amazon. If I were diabetic, I would NEVER go into this “lock-in” situation with no ability to acquire my meds. or food/water nor whatever else is required without taking Berberine!! It seriously could save a life!!

  17. Sorry, I just realized in the earlier post I said “Melrose” but did not indicate that it is a Young Living Essential Oil! OOPS! I’m so often thinking Melrose, I just assume that people know that I’m referring Melrose essential oil!! Sorry!

Also, my homeopathic health counselor/nutritionist friend says that:
    • Holy Basil (or Tulsi tea)
    • Oregano oil
    • Grapefruit seed extract
    • Berberine
    • Usnea
    • Arabinex by Thorne
    • Garlic
    • Probiotics: Culturelle, Sacromyces B and Reuteri will help

I, myself, have been known to take Keflex 500 mg. capsules along with 3 or so of those suggestions…. No, Keflex by itself will help but then the infection comes right back later on with a vengence! We are talking specifically bad, nasty UTIs here, though. Just another great use for Berberine!

You will need to stay on at least a couple of those suggestions for a long time after the UTI appears to be cleared.   No worries.  The drugs won’t help that much unfortunately (or maybe fortunately).

THAT is very important info. to know, national emergency or not!!

  18. Chris, you are absolutely correct! You can only do what you can do, an the trick is to leave the rest in God’s hands and thank Him for taking care of what you cannot do! “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” is a great old hymn that speaks to what we are facing, almost exactly. Still my life’s theme song!!

BTW, don’t forget the HumanN Beet Chews that help with blood pressure issues…open up the arteries to relax them and reduce HBP! I also LOVE the Magnesium Breakthrough product found on Amazon, too! So great and helps with sleep and aches and pains, as well. 🙂

    Best to all,

    JESS
