How To Make Cream Cheese Mints From Scratch

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Have you tried making cream cheese mints from scratch? You may see these little gems at wedding receptions, baby showers, or just about any party! They melt in your mouth with just the right amount of peppermint extract flavoring. Or just about any flavoring you desire.

You can make these using just about any coloring, like pink and blue for a baby shower. How cute would that be? These would make really cute neighbor gifts for the holidays.

Do Cream Cheese Mints Make Good Gifts?

I love homemade gifts in mason jars, and these would be perfect in them. They are creamy and light and you can’t eat just one. Whether you are attending a bridal shower, baby shower, wedding shower, or anything in between, you need to make these.

So, yes, I’d have to say that cream cheese mints make a very good gift! Wouldn’t you love something sweet to munch on from time to time? Of course, you would.

How Long Do Cream Cheese Mints Keep?

If you plan on keeping cream cheese mints out on the counter or table, note that they can be left out for 3-4 hours. Most of the time these mints don’t last that long, people just gobble them right up. It’s nice knowing you can have a sweet treat for everyone to enjoy!

How Many Cream Cheese Mints Do You Need for a Party?

Throwing a party is meant to be fun, but you will want to have the right amount of mints on hand. It’s recommended that for every 50 people, you have five mason jars full of mints. Beware though, some people can eat a whole jar of mints on their own.

Ways to Use These

Do you want to make cream cheese mints, but really don’t know where to start? You need some ideas! Check out these ways in which you can use cream cheese mints.

  • Birthday parties
  • Anniversary parties
  • Weddings or Receptions
  • Baby showers
  • Confirmations
  • Baptisms
  • Church gatherings
  • The closet, for when mommy needs a sweet treat

Simple Ingredients:

They Look So Cute In Jars

Step One

Gather the ingredients to make your first batch of cream cheese mints.

Step Two

If you have a food processor that would be awesome. Using a food processor, add the cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar.

Step Three

Mix until everything is combined and a ball of dough is formed.

Step Four

Add in the extract and process for another minute. Drop a few drops of food coloring onto the dough and fold it in. Knead the dough until the coloring is fully incorporated. If you choose to do a few colors, separate the dough and then add coloring to each ball of dough.

Step Five

Grab a platter or cutting board and a sheet of waxed paper. Sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar so the cream cheese mints will not stick to the paper.

Step Six

Taking teaspoon amounts of dough, or smaller if you would like, roll the dough into a ball and place onto a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper.

Step Seven

Use the tines of a fork to place some decorative lines across the top, sprinkle with powdered sugar and allow the mints to set for a few hours to harden up.

Finished Product

Store in the refrigerator or freezer for up to 2 months, if they last that long! Please keep them refrigerated because they have cream cheese in them.

Can I Freeze These?

Yes, you can by storing them in airtight containers. They will keep for up to three months. Take the frozen mints out of the freezer about 30 minutes before you plan to serve them.

Don’t forget the importance of having the right airtight containers on hand. No one likes freezer burnt cream cheese mints.

What Other Flavorings Can I Add To The Mints?

The sky’s the limit on these mints. If you make pale yellow mints you can add lemon extract or lemon essential oil. One of my favorite flavors is spearmint in pale green candy. Making orange ones with orange essential oil or extract is perfect for a Halloween party.

What Are The Mints Called At Weddings?

You may have seen color-coordinated mints at weddings called a wedding mint. They may be called butter mints or cream cheese mints. Either way, they look darling in all the wedding theme colors, right? And they taste so good!

  3. Hi, we used to make something similar on dreary, stay inside days, but no food processor! A wooden spoon and a bowl for each kid and it really did not matter much if they were formed into pretty shapes–just used muscles and time and made for fun! With a high protein snack before and after to help with the sugar!

  4. We always made buttercream mints, essentially the same recipe but all butter. These sound yummy, too. Will try with some powdered erythritol since I’m low carb/keto now.

I’ve never seen or heard of this type of mint and cannot wait to try them!
My great grandmother used to make mints out of mashed potatoes! Now I realize she used what she had & didn’t waste food. As kids, we thought her mints were so special.
She made them by scooping out some hot, creamy mashed potatoes, added butter, mint extract, powdered sugar & then refrigerated them.
We ate them a couple hours after dinner. Great memories!
