The sugar was lower because the bag is heavy and I guess it’s easier to get. Now the sugar resides in a lid container.
Theoretically dries go into and liquids lower however…

  1. We found several packages of sugar stored in original packaging in a garbage sack inside a tight lid garbage can in a family storage building. From 1996. Most is hard but can be scraped and I have used it in baking and for tea. It tastes fine.

    1. Hi Toni, it depends on where you live whether it was the humidity or somehow it got moisture in it. Scraping works, it’s hard but you can do it. Linda

  2. Hi Linda, I had a couple of 10 lb bags of sugar way beyond the Best By date, like 12 years old. They had absorbed moisture from the air and were pretty hard. I ended up wrapping them with packaging tape so they wouldn’t tear when I pounded the paper bags with a rubber hammer to break up the sugar into lumps. I poured some of the lumps of sugar into a bowl and used a potato masher on them to mash them fine. Emptied the bowl, added more lumps and mashed until the whole bag was done. The sugar worked just fine with baking and cereals and whatever.

At least I did learn to now seal bags of sugar into plastic bags and put them into larger plastic pails with lids.
