When I think of caramel apple crisp, I think of something warm and delicious. It actually takes me back to my childhood and when I would have apple pie as a kid.

How to Make Caramel Apple Crisp
Life wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t make at least one homemade Caramel Apple Crisp in our lifetime. I’m going to show you how to do these steps one by one.

Step One
Start with gathering the ingredients so you are ready to assemble this caramel apple crisp. If you have an apple peeler it will make your life so much easier. This one will peel, core, and slice those juicy fresh apples.

In a medium-sized bowl combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Use a whisk to make sure it is thoroughly mixed.

Add cubed butter and cut in with a pastry cutter.

In a large bowl combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss apple slices in mixture. Make sure to coat them thoroughly.
Step Five
When butter is mixed in (about the size of peas) add in oats and chopped pecans in dry topping mixture. Place in refrigerator while you make the filling.
Step Six
Cover the apples with the topping mixture and bake for 45-48 minutes at 350 degrees.
Step Seven
Now, make the caramel sauce. Combine the brown sugar, butter and half and half into a small pan. Slowly bring to a boil, stirring the entire time.
Boil for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens (it will thicken more once it is cool, so keep that in mind). When at desired thickness, remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
This can be used immediately as a sauce or chilled for dipping apples. Simply reheat to thin it out. This can be kept in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Step Eight
Just before serving, drizzle more caramel sauce onto the warm apple crisp. Serve with vanilla ice cream and a side of caramel sauce for dipping.

- 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- pinch of ginger
- 1/2 cup cold butter cut into cubes
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/4 cup pecans, chopped
- 5 cups of apples, peeled, cored and sliced. I used 5 large Granny Smith ones today. Any variety will work.

- 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
