Fruit: Why Do We Need to Eat It?
Today it’s all about fruit: why do we need to eat it? Nearly everyone enjoys eating all different types of fruit. But for some of us, it’s having the discipline to choose them over a twinkie or a swiss roll.
What’s funny, is that fruit varieties are so much more satisfying and enjoyable than the pastries, with their juiciness, sweet aroma, and flavor. But for some reason, we still reach for that box of diabetes prompting treats.
Fruit: Why Do We Need to Eat It?
You probably know that fruit, much like vegetables, is very good for you. But do you know what health benefits fruit has for you? Whichever fruit you decide to pick, you can count on there being a decent amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that work out in your favor.
Here’s a closer look at some of those, along with other reasons why you need to eat fruit. Have you tried dehydrating apples? Dehydrating Apples
Fruit: A Healthy Snack Option
Fruit makes for a quick and easy snack, and also happens to be a healthy one at that. What you need to keep in mind is that food that comes directly from nature (like fruit) is better for you than food that is made or processed in a factory.
The closer to nature, the better that food is for your health.
- By having fruit available in your home, you are giving your family a healthy snack option, instead of resorting to poor nutritional processed foods.
- These types of snacks are loaded with refined sugars, artificial color, flavoring, and high in calories.
- Eating processed snacks, such as potato chips, cookies, and snack cakes, is causing all kinds of health problems for people later on.
- There are statistics that project by the year 2050, 1 in 3 people will have diabetes. Switch from these types of snacks and go with fruit more often.
Fruit is Nutrient-Dense, Along with Vitamins and Minerals
No matter what fruit you may enjoy the most, it’s going to be densely packed with vitamins and minerals, some more so than others.
Fruit consists of essential nutrients, such as vitamin C, dietary fiber, potassium, and folate. All of these work to provide you with several life-changing health benefits. My favorite apple slicer peeler: Apple Peeler
Fruit Improves Brain Function
There are several antioxidants in fruit that promote and boost healthy brain function. This is especially true for fruit that’s lower in sugar.
Fruit not only helps with brain function, but it can also help improve your memory, as well as protect your brain against decline.
Gives You Energy
Fruit is a great source of fiber, natural sugar, carbs, and several antioxidants. All of which play an important role in providing you with energy, as well as fighting off fatigue. My favorite banana slicer: Banana Slicer
Who couldn’t use a bit more energy to make it through the day? Some of the best fruits that contribute to this include avocados, bananas, strawberries, oranges, apples, and goji berries.
Lowers Cholesterol and Body Fat
Most fruit comes low in fat, sodium, and calories, which can help lower cholesterol, and helps burn fat. That’s great news for dieters and people struggling with high cholesterol.
Just be aware that some fruit that’s higher in sugar content and carbs needs to be eaten in moderation so that you don’t experience the opposite effect.
It Provides Strength
Don’t get me wrong, eating fruit isn’t going to bulk you up the same way as Popeye eating spinach, but they can certainly help with their many nutrients.
Several weight trainers out there will encourage you to eat a banana before a workout because they provide you with a boost of energy and strength. There are a number of other fruits that will do the same thing.
Fruit Reduces the Risk of Certain Diseases and Cancer
When there is an imbalance of more oxidative stress in our bodies than a healthy defensive system that is able to detoxify them, your body is at a much higher risk to disease, especially heart disease.
Thankfully, eating fruit is a great way to help with that.
By allowing fruit to be more a part of your everyday diet, it may slow or help prevent cancer development. This is due to the antioxidants lycopene, beta-carotene, as well as vitamins C, E, and A.
These good guys, work together to battle free radicals that are prone to cause cell damage and cancer.
Fruit Improves Your Digestive System
Eating fruits that are high in fiber and potassium will provide you with a healthy digestive system. Zinc, vitamin B6, and folate also play a role in regularity.
This can keep you from experiencing constipation, bloating, diarrhea, and extreme discomfort.
Final Word
Most of us enjoy eating fruit, but sometimes when it’s not right under our nose we quickly fall for snacks that are not as nutrient-dense.
Make eating fruit a good and healthy habit for you to get started if you haven’t already. It’s especially an important habit to get your children on board with.
Cut up some fruit and place it on the table for you and your kids. You’ll be surprised how quickly it gets gobbled up.
Do you know of any other reasons why we need to eat fruit more often? What did you find the most surprising about fruit and its many health benefits?

Very good information, as usual, but there are seven fruits that’s must be buy organic.
Please look in internet for “The dirty dozen+” to know them and why.
There is also “The 15 clean” that you do not need to buy organic.
Best regards.
Hi Jose, I love hearing about this stuff! It sounds like I need to write a few more posts on fruit! Thank you, Linda
Please do it.
Hi Jose, I just added it to my list! Linda
Eat yourself healthy! Right on.
I love to eat bananas, grapes, raisins and cheese sticks, sometimes with a granola bar. Any combination is good. I’m also terribly fond of Dole Orange-Pineapple juice.
I also like cooked apples. Hate them raw. I know they have a bit of sugar, but the doctor a day I want to keep away, doesn’t have to know about it. 🙂
Hi Frank, oh my gosh, I love the doctor who doesn’t need to know!!! I need to try that Dole-Orange Pineapple Juice! Stay well, keep eating apples! Linda
Thank you.
