How Virtual Reality Can Help You Be a Better Prepper
Virtual Reality (VR) technology has gained popularity in various fields, including entertainment and gaming. However, its potential extends beyond just these areas. VR can also be a valuable tool for preppers, helping them enhance their survival skills and preparedness. Today, I want to talk about how virtual reality can help you be a better prepper.
What is virtual reality?
Virtual Reality (VR) refers to a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that an individual can interact with and explore. This is done through one of many VR devices, typically through a VR headset or goggles. The use of VR makes users feel like they are physically present in a virtual world that feels much like the real world in real-time. Oculus Virtual Reality Set
1. Immersive Training Experience
One of the key benefits of VR for preppers is its ability to provide an immersive training experience in various learning environments. Through virtual simulations, individuals can practice survival techniques in realistic scenarios like a virtual field trip without actually being exposed to physical danger. This allows preppers to develop and refine their skills in a safe and controlled environment. 15 Valuable Skills I Learned In Home Economics
A VR game called “Survivorman VR” is designed specifically to teach real survival skills. The game immerses players in virtual wilderness scenarios, the game provides an interactive learning experience that mimics the challenges one might face in real-life survival situations. This virtual reality experience can be both entertaining and immersive learning at the same time. The VR technology developed today is amazing and a truly immersive experience since you feel like you’re right there.
2. Environmental Reconstruction
VR can also help preppers reconstruct and study environments that have played a significant role in the long evolutionary past, as highlighted in a research article published in Springer. Being able to recreate historical landscapes or disaster-stricken areas, preppers can gain insights into the challenges they may encounter and devise effective strategies to overcome them. Through this VR experience, they can become fast learners and develop the skills needed to put their emergency and survival plans together.
3. Stressful Training Scenarios
Virtual reality can simulate stressful situations that preppers may encounter during emergencies. The 2402 Foundation, as mentioned on its website, offers a unique VR training program that uses VR to immerse participants in realistic and high-stress scenarios. This type of training can help preppers develop resilience, decision-making skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
We all have to deal with distractions of some kind as we try to study and learn a new skill or life lesson. Through virtual reality technology, we can have exposure to new “realities” without live human interaction with others. Though social interaction is very important, it is worthwhile to experience things without the anxiety of health risks or harm to others. A VR platform gives you that opportunity right in your home.
4. Enhanced Situational Awareness
Another advantage of VR for preppers is its ability to enhance situational awareness. By creating virtual environments, individuals can practice observing and analyzing their surroundings, identifying potential risks, and making informed decisions. This capability is super valuable in survival situations where every second counts. Using this tool to help you understand situational awareness means that virtual reality can help you be a better prepper! 10 Best Home Defense Options in an Emergency
We hear a lot about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affecting those in the military, first responders, and others. Through VR we can “experience” some similar circumstances without concern for our mental health, but still learn from the scenarios depicted. It can be so lifelike that healthcare professionals like surgeons use VR to learn how to perform surgeries of various kinds.
5. Metaverse Prepping
The term metaverse means a network of shared virtual worlds where people can connect with friends, create and play games much like game developers, and also work and shop. As the metaverse augmented reality concept gains traction, some individuals known as “metaverse preppers” are preparing for a future where humanity resides in shared virtual spaces. These VR architects help preppers invest in NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and other virtual assets to ensure they are well-prepared for this potential future. Are there virtual reality tools or platforms specifically designed for metaverse prepping?
While the concept of metaverse prepping is still emerging, there are discussions and explorations around using virtual reality tools and platforms to prepare for potential future scenarios involving shared virtual spaces. However, specific virtual reality tools exclusively designed for metaverse prepping may not be widely available at the moment.
Can virtual reality provide realistic stress and pressure during training simulations?
Virtual reality can simulate stressful situations by incorporating elements like time constraints, high stakes, and unexpected events. This works by creating a sense of presence and immersion, VR can evoke emotional and physiological responses that mimic real-life stress and pressure. There are some situations where a more non-immersive VR can be used to simulate real life but without the stress.
How can virtual reality enhance situational awareness for preppers?
Virtual reality can enhance situational awareness by creating virtual environments where preppers can practice observing and assessing their surroundings, identifying potential risks, and making informed decisions in simulated scenarios. This helps develop critical thinking skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Can virtual reality help with mental preparedness and resilience training?
Yes, virtual reality can be utilized for mental preparedness and resilience training. VR simulations can expose preppers to challenging and high-stress scenarios, helping them develop coping strategies, emotional regulation, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Final Word
Virtual reality has the potential to revolutionize the way preppers prepare for emergencies. Providing immersive training experiences, VR can empower preppers to be better equipped to handle the world of prepping a little better. As technology advances, it will be fascinating to see how VR evolves and further supports the preparedness community. May God Bless this World, Linda

I’ve never done VR. The full room screen shooting simulator is as close as I’ve done. It was very easy to become fully emerged into it. I found myself taking cover, laterally moving and with an elevated heart rate.
Things that take you out of the comfort zone, make you think and put the mind at a later date, of “oh I’ve been here before “ are going to be helpful. The immediate feedback is also helpful. Doing an AAR (after action review) is important.
It should definitely be a rung in the ladder of training
Hi Matt, thank you for your kind words. I think it’s a great idea to teach skills in every way possible. I’ve seen the shooting simluator and my husband has used the golfing simulator at a golf store once. It’s just another way to practice skills. Linda
You’ve got to be kidding me…..virtual reality!!!!!! I’ve really liked & have been reading your daily newsletter for several years now, but this junk doesn’t hold any possibility for many on here. It’s surely one subject that many will shake their heads at; it’s what I did when I opened this email. Any more of this kind of junk & I’ll back off from reading this any more. Thanks, but no thanks.
Hi Janet, I’m so sorry you feel this way. It’s actually a great way to teach many skills indoors. Linda
While I realize that virtual reality may have limited interest in my current world, I can truly see the emense value to our grandsons. The training for our military and law enforcement agencies would be beyond helpful, and for civilians that can access Virtual Reality, it would help all of us. As the New Year approaches, please stay safe and healthy
Hi Chris, oh you are the best friend ever! My grandsons, son-in-laws, and daughters all love using Virtual Reality tools to learn things, play games and boy do they get exercise! Thank you for you kind comment. Happy New Year to all and yes, everyone please stay safe, and well. Linda
